We have been privileged to be a member of the Golden Isles community, both part-time and full-time, for many decades. One of the things we have always loved is the eclectic selection of locally-owned stores and restaurants rather than endless rows of national chain stores found in so many other coastal communities.
By shopping locally, we keep nearly 70% in our community, as opposed to only 40% or so when shopping at a national retailer. The difference is even more stark when compared to online retailers. It goes without saying that the major online retailers do not return much, or any, of their revenue to Coastal Georgia.
Thus, we ask you to please consider shopping locally whenever possible. It really does make a difference and it allows us to return the favor by supporting many local causes. Here are just some of the local organizations or affiliates we have contributed to in the last few months:
- St Simons Elementary School
- The Coastal Symphony of Georgia
- America’s Second Harvest
- Keep Golden Isles Beautiful
- Glynn Visual Arts
- Christ Church Tour of Homes
- St Francis Xavier Crusaders
- American Cancer Society
- Helping Hugs for Haiti
- Susan G Komen
